ABC’s Forever

One of the great joys of San Diego’s Comic Con International is discovering new television shows, new books, new… things you simply did not know were out there, or were coming out, but catch your eye, spark your imagination, and capture some part of your mind and make you wonder just what the creative forces behind it have in store for you.

While I waited for my turn to get an autograph from the cast of Resurrection I saw a trailer for the show Forever and I had one of those moments.  The discovery of a show I knew nothing about, and yet suddenly I was curious.  In thirty seconds, perhaps 60, they told me just enough to want to know more, to want to tune in for an hour and find out just who are these characters and what kind of trouble are they going to get into — and back out of!

Resurrection is one of those TV shows where you watch the entire season, pretty sure you have an idea what is going on, fairly certain you understand where the twists and turns are leading, and yet, even as the final scene unfolds, and you realize you really have been following along and seeing what problems season 2 will leave the characters to face, Jacob grabs hold tightly to the man who has been standing up for him all along, Agent Bellamy (played by Omar Epps) and you realize there are even more layers to this story, and yes… you do wish you had read the book The Returned by Jason Mott, because while it may not answer any of your questions, it just might give you an idea of what some even better questions to be asking.

Four members of the cast of Resurrection, Omar Epps, Frances Fisher, Devin Kelley and Kurtwood Smith charmed fans at the ABC Booth during San Diego’s Comic-Con International.  Barely able to see the convention hall floor, they remarked it was clear they were in the midst of an amazing event, and they were curious to see more of it, but it was equally clear to those of us lucky enough to get a chance to go down the line that while they were at that table we were the focus of their attention.

And a quick moment of clarification… several fans I bumped into at CCI mentioned having really enjoyed the french version of this show, and thought perhaps it was better… sad to say, a quick tour of google tells me that while there was a French movie with a similar premise, and it is indeed evolving into a French TV show, it is NOT based on the same book, and is not the same show/story.  The two have similar names, and similar story-arcs by the sounds of it… but Resurrection is based on Jason Mott’s book The Returned, and the french movie/show is not.

San Diego’s Comic-Con International – Through the Lens

Here’s a quick glimpse of some photos taken while walking around before preview night.

TNT’s Legends has an eye-catching wrap on the Marriott beside the Convention Center, easily seen from a variety of vantage points the face becomes clearer as you move from one side to the other.  Yeah, they got me, I’ll be tuning in next month!

Gotham City was still being built — but from what I saw, it has a very impressive skyline!

With more buildings yet to come!

ABC’s Resurrection and Once Upon A Time both have HUGE banners on the side of Petco Park.  Walking across the bridge from the Hilton Bayfront to the Petco Interactive Zone (the parking lot for Petco) you begin to realize the Resurrection banner has a side panel to it.

I don’t know what impressed me more, the covered bridge the folks from FOX’s Sleepy Hollow built, or the water beside it, which I am 99% sure is a chalk drawing, and yet you can’t see the paint for the parking spots under the drawing!  Yes, I want to pay a visit to the Village of Sleepy Hollow before the weekend is out.

Norton by Symantec and the X-Men are offering a chance to help us take control of our future… and next to them is the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  Not far away are Angry Birds, Hello Kitty, and a cosplay make-up booth sponsored by Courtyard by Marriott.

1-DSC01514 1-DSC01457Ah, the Blacklist!  Tin Fish has been themed up this year, and with quotes like that, how could I not be amused?  Especially when, as always, the food is tasty, and convenient?  (Yes, that’s the convention center you see in the background.)
